It's good to have chemistry, but can you sustain it?

The question was asked when John Stamos and Melissa George presented their new action drama "Thieves" to reporters Sunday (July 22).

"Thieves" follows two robbers caught by the government and forced to work together to retrieve stolen government property. Like the '80s drama "Moonlighting," "Thieves" relies on the sexual chemistry between the show's two stars and the question if they will, or won't have sex.

/>"They're never going to sleep together," executive producer Arnold Kopelson ("The Fugitive" ) said at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, CA. Kopelson added that he and show creator Jim Leonard ("My Own Country" ) initially said the two characters would never get together, and haven't discussed it since.

Leonard says the reason they chose not to have the characters consummate the relationship is because, when it has been done on other similarly formatted programs, it has usually led to the death of the show.

On "Moonlighting," after years of teasing the audience, when Maddie (Cybill Sheperd) and David (Bruce Willis) finally became a couple, many viewers felt there was no longer any reason to watch the show.

Helping maintain the tension, Leonard says George's character, Rita, will begin dating a motorcycle cop in the show's fourth episode. He hinted that Stamos' character, Johnny, might also have outside relationships in the future.
